We have had an interesting weekend at All Children's. Friday they placed the PH probe in Mason's body. It remained there until Sat. morning. This tested the acid that was going through his stomach. He had a VERY difficult time with the tubes up his nose. He was unable to sleep for any length of time over the weekend. This morning we asked the doctor to please remove the feeding tube. Since having it in, Mason developed a horrible cough and conjestion. This morning he started running a fever of 102.5. This has continued throughout the day even with Tylenol. They have now contacted Neurosurgery to do some scans to make sure there is not shunt malfunction.
Originally, we came into the hospital for all of the GI issues. When they did the esophogram on Mason, they discoverd that his diaphram is uneven. The right side is elevated more than the left side. This can be very serious and require an extensive surgery. We have done an ultrasound, Fluroscopy and CT Scan to look at the diaphram. The pulmonologist that we are working with is great and cautious. He is running every test before deciding on surgery. Tomorrow, we should have results back from CT Scan. The problem is called a diaphragmatic hernia. The surgery would push the diaphram down making it even with the left side. Please be in prayer about this procedure. Anytime surgery is discussed it is scary. We continue to pray for wisdom and guidance.
As far as the GI issues go, we're still going around in a circle. Friday we were told the GJ tube was where they were leaning. (feeding tube) Today we are getting another story. The good news is the fundoplication seems to be ruled out at this time. Our doctor is not a big fan of the surgery. It has alot of negative side effects and may not be a solution for the problem. Our biggest question is what is the cause? They are still unable to give us an answer. Until they do, We are not letting them open Mason up for any surgery. Please continue to pray for us in this situation. It gets a bit frustrating b/c we still feel we're at square one. The PH probe came back positive for acid. The doc seems unsure of a solution.
We feel so blessed to be at the new hospital. It is great and we know Mason is in good hands. Please pray that his fever goes down and we can get some answers. We would love some sleep as well :). We have had amazing support. Thank you for your texts, phone calls and visits. They mean the world to us. Mason has an amazing collection of stuffed animals. His crib is full of precious treasures people have brought. Thank you to all my girls who have come to cheer me up and get me out of the hospital. Please pray for Kevin as he works during the day and comes to stay with us at night. He has alot on his shoulders. What a precious husband and daddy. You are our hero!!! We'll keep you updated as we continue to find out new information. Love you all, Wendy
